Shop Easy closing by PAUL RAYNER Boissevain will be losing one of its grocery stores next month. Shop Easy Foods, located on Highway #10, will be closing its doors on May 17. According to operator Vicky Harper, the Loblaws Shop Easy Corporation saw a steady decline in business and she was informed of the decision by the corporation on Friday, March 28. “It was kind of a surprise,” Harper said. “It will be closed due to a lack of support.” Harper assumed her position in August of 2006, replacing previous owners Barry and Eileen Sawatzky. Prior to the closing, the Sears outlet will be moving over to It Makes Cents on South Railway Street. Proprietor Anita Crowe said they are doing some renovating in the store to prepare, with the plan to have May 4 the first delivery date. Harper said including herself, there were ten employees at Shop Easy, a number that will begin to decline this coming Monday. She has no definite future plans at this point. |
